Another nice mess..er..day in Ulverston. The unveiling of the towns statue of the boys was a marvelous event. The sunshine couldnt have been better and the turnout was very plentiful. We decided to leave early to avoid the traffic and to get a good site, we picked Grandma up on the way, left Granda at home he's 75 and doesn't like crowds!
The festivities started at around 1pm and lasted till 5, they had a duo act Haurel and Lardy which were delightfully suprising. I didn't think I would like as many duo's just copy their dialogue from the films- these guys were pro entertainers! They were magicians and comedians rolled into one (sound like Tommy Cooper eh?) but there was two of them.
Ken Dodd arrived around late in the afternoon riding in the back of H&L 1924 Model T Ford, waving his tickling sticks to the crowds. We had a very clear view from where we were stood just a handshake away from us and he came right past us and greeted the fans. Dispite the fact he is 81 years old he looks great! He even waved and danced on the balcony of Coronation Hall with H&L and the mayoress. What a delight he was!
Speech time...then VIOLA!!!!!
